A classically-shaped Yixing teapot made from Da Hong Pao clay.  Da Hong Pao clay has high density and a large percentage of iron oxide which gives this pot a distinctive crimson color after kiln firing. This clay will take on an exceptionally rich tone as the teapot is used and brushed with water or tea during use.  The outside is smooth and uniform with a nice soft luster.  This refined finish is the result of the potter’s careful burnishing of the surface.  A delicately-pointed finial on the lid and a gracefully-curved spout add to the pot’s elegant appearance.   It is well-proportioned and has a nice, smooth pour.  The potter, Xia Cai Hong, has stamped her signature both at the bottom of the pot and the base of the handle.

This teapot comes wrapped in a protective silk-fabric pouch with a drawstring closure and packaged in a presentation box.  The pouch is perfect for storing the pot between uses to ward off scratches and dust.  All photos are of the actual pot that is for sale (we only have one, so act quickly if you are interested in this unusual pot crafted by a female Chinese potter!).
