This lovely tea bowl has a slightly rough surface that has been softened by a thin, matte glaze over the entire bowl. Yamada has added a little banding at the top of the tea bowl that has pushed the lip back for easy sipping. Splotches of cream glaze punctuate the front and inside of the bowl. These earthy and natural tones are quite complementary to the color of a whisked bowl of Matcha.
While classically a ‘summer bowl’ in shape, this chawan can, of course, be used year round if you love its wonderful shape and glazing. Its appearance is stunning with the contrast of the matcha green inside the bowl.
