This teacup features a pair of expressively carved plum blossoms. The leaves are colored with a delightfully speckled matte orange-brown wash, while each flower petal is accented with a wash of red. The background is a lovely matte blue, punctuated with multiple flecks of glossy dark blue. The juxtaposition of colors and the depth of the chisel marks truly make each finely-carved petal and branch ‘pop’. Four ridges emanate from the cup’s flower-petal-like foot ring and then disappear just above the base, giving the lower portion of the cup a subtly scalloped shape. While the cup’s fully glazed interior is completely smooth, the exterior glaze contains a small amount of grit. This provides a pleasant texture and feeling of stability in the hand.

Slight variations in the painting, colors, tooling, patterning and kiln effects of Chinese and Japanese tea wares are to be expected. We have carefully photographed this item as best as possible – please be aware that different device screens can render colors and subtle tones slightly differently.
