Teacups from China

China Teawares > Teacups

Chinese teacups are small and made from delicate porcelain or Yixing unglazed clay. Some cups are plain while others are hand-painted.

The small size of the teacups is very important in Chinese tea service - most teas are re-stepped multiple times in small teapots that yield strong, delicious, full-bodied tea.

In this practice, teacups are replenished many times so that guests may experience several different 'tastes' of the same tea from each successive re-steeping. When the tea drinking session is over, each guest has drunk many, many cups of tea and ventures out from the tea house contented.
