Kazufusa Kato has created a stylishly-shaped teapot with many glorious kiln markings (yohen, or ‘kiln effects’). The finish on the pot is slightly glossy which was created entirely by the forces of wood and fire in his wood-burning kiln. The kiln blessed this particular teapot with three wonderful ash glaze ‘flashes’ that range in color from dark to pale grey and are surrounded by bursts of orangish-brown color. The rich, brownish-grey tones of the clay provide the perfect complement to the colors of the yohen. On the lid, Kazufusa Kato has added a punched-out design that resembles a tiny cluster of grapes with a stem. The design allows steam from the steeping tea to escape while adding a clever design element to the teapot. All in all, this one-of-a-kind teapot is a stunning selection.
This is a handmade item – slight variations in the painting, colors, tooling, patterning and kiln effects of Chinese and Japanese tea wares are to be expected. We have carefully photographed this item as best as possible – please be aware that different device screens can render colors and subtle tones slightly differently.
